Theog Travel Guide

The beautiful and charming hamlet of Theog is situated in Himachal Pradesh. Only 32 kilometres away from the hill station of Shimla, the unexplored and untouched spot makes a perfect place to feel a chill in the air.

How to Reach Theog
How to Reach Theog by Air
Theog does not have an airport of its own. The nearest airport is in Shimla, Jubbarhatti; 45 kms away. There are regular flights from Delhi to Shimla. Note that during winters, flights may be irregular, especially from December till February. After getting off at the Shimla airport, you can hire a cab or take a bus to get to Theog.
 
How to Reach Theog by Rail
The nearest railhead is at Kalka, 105 kms away. It is well connected to most major cities in India, including Delhi, Calcutta and Mumbai. From Kalka station, you can hire a cab (rates are high) or take a bus to get to Theog.
 
How to Reach Theog by Bus
You will have to take a direct bus to Shimla first and then from there take a bus again or hire a taxi to get to Theog. The distance between Shimla and Theog is only 30kms and it will take you near about 75 mins to reach. 
 
If you wish to drive down from New Delhi to Theog, then it is possible to do so. The driving distance and time from New Delhi is 381 kms and 9 hours respectively.



 
Getting Around Theog
Public transport is widely available in the small town of Theog. You can travel from one place to another by a local bus or hire a shared jeep- the most reasonable way to get around here. Also hiring a taxi for sightseeing is a good option. Try walking and exploring the quaint town on foot, it is not difficult at all and instead there will be a number of local inhabitants around to give you directions if you forget your way! Absolutely no chance of getting lost.

Driving Direction from Chandigarh to Theog
Distance: 145 km
Driving Time: 3.00 hours
If you are driving from Chandigarh to Theog then you need to drive for about 12kms to reach sector 17 and from here take the Madhya Marg towards Manimajra.
Drive for another 14kms to reach Panchkula and from there take the route to NH22.
Keep driving on NH22 for about 24kms before you reach Kalka.
From here keep driving on NH22 and follow the instructions on the road till you cross Dhalli, Kufri, and Fagu and spot a sign for your destination – Theog.
   

Driving Direction from Delhi to Theog
Distance: 381 km
Driving Time: 8.00 hours
If you are driving from Delhi to Theog then drive for about 13kms to reach Grand Trunk Karnal Road and then cross Azadpur Mandi and Badli Bypass to reach Transport Nagar.
Keep driving for 73kms more till you reach NH1.
Drive straight on NH1 and follow the instructions as you cross Ganaur and Panipat.
Drive for some 35kms more to continue on NH1 and reach Karnal.
You can stop at Karnal for some light snacks and sightseeing as well.
From here drive for another 31kms and keep going straight on NH1 till you reach Pipli.
Keep driving for another 49kms to continue on NH1 till you reach Ambala from here another 47kms before you take the road to NH22 and drive for about 14kms to reach Panchkula.
Continue driving for about 24kms on NH22 till you reach Kalka and continue driving on NH22 and follow the instructions on NH22 till you pass Dhalli, Kufri and Fagu and see a sign for your destination – Theog.

Where to Stay in Theog
There is a limited choice for places to stay in Theog, as it is a small hamlet in Himachal Pradesh.
 
If you are looking for a reasonable accommodation then the guesthouse of Himachal Pradesh Public Works Department (PWD) is the best bet as it offers all the basic facilities for a comfortable stay and is easily accessible from the road. The Guesthouse is open for visitors who book through the B&R Division Office at Theog. 
 
There are a number of small private hotels in Theog with price ranges suited to every budget. For three star and four star facilities you may try Hotel Pankaj, East Bourne Resort and Hotel Combermere near Theog.

Best Time to Visit Theog
The best time to visit Theog is between October and November, when the temperature is moderate and remains a cool 25 degrees Centigrade in the day time. From December till February it gets very cold with temperatures in the single digits accompanied with heavy snowfall. A quieter time to visit the quaint town is in the summers as the place is not overcrowded with tourists.


Things to do in Theog
Theog is a perfect place to spend some time in serenity. There are limited things to do in this hill station. Enjoy breathtaking views of nature while taking long leisure walks through the woods or head to nearby Fagu for some adventure. Relax in Theog for some time and head to Hatkoli to check out beautiful apple laden orchards or Tattapani that is known for its hot sulphur springs
